Legendary music industry executive Chris Lightly has died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
Lighty had been active in the Hip Hop scene since the late-80?s, before founding Violator Entertainment and handling the careers of some of Hip Hop?s biggest names.
From Hip Hop DX:
?Lighty was integral to the careers of 50 Cent, Busta Rhymes, N.O.R.E., Diamond D, and many others. After growing up under the tutelage of Hip Hop icons like DJ Red Alert, Lighty began working professional at Russell Simmons? RUSH Management firm in the late 1980s, where he helped work with Def Jam Records artists and others in securing endorsement deals and touring.
A part of the Native Tongues at the turn of the decade, Lighty and his brother as The Violators, helped the movement alongside A Tribe Called Quest and De La Soul.
The Violator name carried on in the late 1990s and 2000s, when Lighty launched his own firm. The management company handled clients ranging from Diamond D and Foxy Brown to Busta Rhymes and Q-Tip. In recent years, Lighty was working on Brand Asset Group with Lyor Cohen, his longtime associate and friend, and Warner Music Group. Last September, Violator merged with Primary Wave to form powerhouse management company Primary Violator.?
A cooling glove resembling a high-tech oven mitt has proven it can boost sports performance to levels beyond steroid users' wildest dreams ? to the point where college and professional teams have already begun adopting the technology for their athletes.
The plastic glove cools a network of veins in human palms that typically act as radiators to expel heat from the body, according to Stanford University News. Such cooling appears to practically erase muscle fatigue regardless of the exercises done ? pull-ups, bench presses, running or cycling.
"Equal to or substantially better than steroids ? and it's not illegal," said Dennis Grahn, a biologist at Stanford University and co-inventor of the cooling glove.
The glove's airtight seal allows it to create a slight vacuum that permits the veins to expand and draw in more blood for rapid cooling through circulated water in the glove lining. Such technology allows exercisers to enjoy huge gains in recovery without evidence of bodily damage from overworking the muscles.
College athletic programs such as Stanford's football and track and field teams have already begun using versions of the glove. Not to be outdone, professional teams such as the San Francisco 49ers, the Oakland Raiders and Manchester United soccer club have also followed suit.
Body temperature is crucial because too much heat can force muscle cells to shut down lest they end up self-destructing. The cooling glove acts by quickly returning the muscle cells to their original active state.
Grahn first stumbled upon the unusual sports technology with H. Craig Heller, fellow Stanford biologist, when they tried to answer a longstanding mystery ? how black bears are able to cool themselves with all that fur.
The biologists discovered that bears and other furry animals have hairless patches of skin with networks of veins lurking close to the surface. Those special veins, called AVAs (arteriovenous anastomoses), appear to be designed specifically for regulating core body temperature.
Bears have such natural radiators on their feet pads and the tips of their noses. Dogs have them in their tongues, rabbits have them in their ears, and rats have them in their tails.
The technological shortcutting of the body's natural muscle fatigue could also help patients in medical scenarios, or possibly help out soldiers as part of futuristic combat gear. But it seems almost certain that many more professional athletes ? including Olympic champions ? will turn to the device for a boost that's better than illegal drugs.

LONDON (AP) ? Around 2,600 foreign students could be deported from Britain after their university was stripped of its ability to sponsor visas for pupils beyond the European Union, the government announced Thursday. The move provoked dismay from students and accusations that the move by the Conservative-led government, which is bent on reducing immigration, could damage Britain's global reputation.
London Metropolitan University has lost its "highly trusted status" because a survey found significant problems with the qualifications of many of its foreign students, Immigration Minister Damian Green said.
In a "significant proportion" of cases, there was no documentation that students had a good standard of English, Green said, and there was no proof that half of those sampled were attending lectures. He said the sampling of the university's foreign students indicated that more than a quarter did not have current permission to be in the country.
"Any one of those breaches would be serious," Green told BBC radio. "We found all three of those breaches at London Metropolitan."
A degree from a U.K. university is highly prized by many students abroad, and those from outside the European Union often pay higher fees than residents. The British government, which has cracked down on immigration in multiple ways, has pointed to student visas as a category ripe for abuse by those who may instead be looking for work.
London Metropolitan has 30,000 students, and 2,600 are affected by the government's decision, said university spokesman Nick Hansen. Students from other European Union countries don't need visas.
The affected students will have 60 days to find new sponsors once they are formally notified by the government, or they could be deported. A task force has been set up to help genuine students who otherwise qualify for visas, Universities Minister David Willetts said, but with the fall term imminent students have little time to find new sponsors and courses.
Emmanuel Egwu, a 24-year-old Nigerian, said he was told he would be unable to do his final year of his three-year course in forensic sciences at London Metropolitan. "I have been paying loads of tuition fees, my parents have been spending a lot of money, selling properties back home to make sure my tuition fees have been paid. It's like flushing money down the toilet," Egwu said.
It was not clear why the affected students currently at London Metropolitan's system were not being allowed to simply finish their courses of study.
The government has not accused London Metropolitan of fraudulently accepting foreign students, and there was no indication its academic accreditation is under threat. The Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education said in 2010 about London Metropolitan: "Confidence can reasonably be placed in the soundness of the institution's present and likely future management of the academic standards of its awards."
London Metropolitan was formed in 2002 when London Guildhall University and the University of North London merged, and it traces its history to the founding of the City of London College in 1861.
Vice Chancellor Malcolm Gillies said London Metropolitan was "working with the best lawyers in the country" to challenge the ruling by the U.K. Border Agency. "I would go so far as to say that UKBA has been rewriting its own guidelines on this issue and this is something which should cause concern to all universities in the U.K.," Gillies said.
Two years ago, Green said he feared that the number of visas issued annually to students and dependents ? some 320,000 at the time ? was not sustainable. A Home Office report found that more than 20 percent of those granted student visas in 2004 were still in the country five years later.
In May, the government launched Operation Mayapple "to crack down on students and other migrants staying in the U.K. longer than permitted." By last month, the Home Office said that program had sent home 2,000 illegal migrants. Recent regulations also have set a five-year limit on completing an undergraduate degree.
The border agency insisted that in the London Metropolitan case, "these are problems with one university, not the whole sector." But education officials expressed fear that the episode could damage Britain's future efforts to attract foreign students, something that also hurts the schools' budgets.
Nicola Dandridge, chief executive of Universities UK, a group representing higher education institutions, called the government's action "surprising and disproportionate."
"It is one thing, raising issues if they have them with London Met and, if appropriate, penalizing the university ... but penalizing legitimate international students is disproportionate and it is damaging to our international reputation," Dandridge said.
"No matter how this is dressed up, the damaging message that the U.K. deports foreign students studying at U.K. universities will reach all corners of the globe," said Sally Hunt, general secretary of the University and College Union. "The last thing we can afford to do is send a message that international students are no longer welcome here."
However, the government had its supporters.
Andrew Green, chairman of Migration Watch UK, which campaigns for tighter control of immigration, said "there is crystal clear evidence of substantial abuse" of student visas. "The government (is) absolutely right to crack down on this," he said.

LONDON (AP) ? The no-fly zone has shrunk and the missiles have been put to bed, but security around London's upcoming Paralympic Games will still be tight.
Britain's defense ministry said about 3,500 military personnel will be available for venue security duties, if needed, compared with 12,200 during the Summer Olympics.
Police numbers will also be trimmed to around 7,000 officers on duty during the Paralympics, Scotland Yard's national Olympic security coordinator Chris Allison said Tuesday.
"There is a difference between this operation and the Olympic operation and that is scale," Allison told reporters.
Fighter jets put on standby to intercept threats during the Olympics have returned to normal duties, but the HMS Ocean ? the largest ship in the Royal Navy's fleet ? will remain berthed in south London to act as a helicopter landing site and logistics base.
Troops have removed surface-to-air missiles installed at six sites around the capital as part of the vast security operation for the July 27-Aug. 12 Olympics, while a wide no-fly zone over east London has been scaled back dramatically. The Civil Aviation Authority said aircraft would now be restricted only from small areas around the Olympics Park, the athletes' village and the Eton Dorney rowing venue in west London.
Security was razor-sharp for the Olympics and officials were relieved it went off without any major security issues.
Britain was America's closest ally in Afghanistan and Iraq, making it a prime target of Islamic terror groups. And dozens of recent terror plots, including the 2006 one to blow up nearly a dozen trans-Atlantic airliners, have been hatched within Britain's sizeable Muslim population, more than 1 million of whom have ties to Pakistan.
Police anticipate that the terror threat level during the Paralympics is "substantial" ? meaning a terrorist attack is a strong possibility, Allison said. It is a notch below severe, the level Britain has been at for much of the time since the 2005 suicide bombings when 52 people were killed in attacks on London's transit network.
"We're still obviously prepared for threats to these games, but I think it's fair to say that there is a different degree of risk," said a British security official who spoke on condition of anonymity because he is not authorized to speak to the press.
But the Paralympics present unique problems. Security personnel will have to inspect many of the athletes' specialist equipment, such as wheelchairs or prosthetics, for contraband.
Police and London organizing officials say they are confident guards are prepared for the challenge, and that all participants and visitors will be searched as thoroughly as during the Olympics.
"Our security staff have been trained to deal with the slightly different profile (of people) at the Paralympics," Paul Deighton, the London organizing committee's chief executive, told reporters.
G4S, the private contractor in charge of Olympic and Paralympic security, said it will be able to supply the needed personnel for the upcoming games.
The military had to step in at the last minute before the Olympics when the company admitted it would have a staffing shortfall at the Olympics.
G4S will provide some 5,000 staff to guard the Paralympic games with airport-like security checks.
"We take the task seriously and we're approaching it much the same way as we did the Olympic Games," said Adam Mynott, a G4S spokesman. "Although it's a smaller operation and the scope is smaller, it's still a large sporting event and we don't anticipate any issues."

This is an anecdote but it's a fairly convincing one:
I once had a roommate who was a sports fanatic who worked as a server in a sports bar/restaurant at the time. He would listened to sports radio while he slept - usually it was the west coast baseball games (we're in EST) - and he claimed that the broadcasters would basically narrate his dreams of baseball. He knew most the players so if he heard something like, "Bonds hits it to center field, he slides to first and is safe," it's something he could envision realistically.
It's easy to dismiss this as a wild claim he made, but the proof was in the pudding. He could, with confidence, talk about the games the next day before hearing/seeing anything about them. He knew the scores, the big plays, damn near everything as well as if he had watched it on TV. His customers ate it up - they'd love to put him to the test before the highlights would show up on the tube.

Scotland's Paul Lawrie is determined to deliver European Ryder Cup captain Jose Maria Olazabal a third victory boost after muscling his way to a one stroke lead on day three of the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles.
Lawrie, seeking his second Tour victory this year, grabbed seven birdies in a five under par 67 on Saturday to move to 12-under par and one stroke clear of Frenchman Romain Wattel.
Earlier this week, Lawrie's return to the European Team for the first time in 13 years since making his only appearance at Brookline in 1999 was confirmed
"I played very good again today and hit the ball very solid," he said.
"I gave myself a lot of chances and only hit two poor shots all day. But the big thing this week is that I have been working on my rhythm again.
"I was doing that at the start of the year but what has been going on lately, it's not been the same so if I can hang on tomorrow (Sunday) and that would be huge to have two wins in a Ryder Cup year."
If successful in capturing an eighth European Tour success Lawrie would then join fellow European Ryder Cup members Rory McIlroy and Sergio Garcia as a third straight winner for Olazabal.
"It wasn't long ago that the American Team, not kind of dominating but they were playing better than our team, no question," said Lawrie.
"But slowly but surely the last two, three, four weeks, the European boys have kicked on a little bit and had a couple of good wins, and Rory at the PGA, I would hope that would be huge for our team, winning the last major.
"That would be a big advantage for us.
"But then the American Team have good players, experienced players, like we have. It's going to still come down to be one or two points I would imagine."
Wattel posted 10 birdies in a nine under par 63 for the 21-year to be in second place on 11-under par and as he strives for his first Tour victory.
"Every time you go low in a round you enjoy it but I especially enjoyed today's round because this is a tough golf course," said Wattel.
"I needed a really good score to be back in the tournament and that's what I did so I am really happy."
Belgium's Nicolas Colsaerts, despite birdies at his opening two holes, looks now likely needing a Ryder Cup 'wildcard' pick after slipping six shots behind Lawrie with a one under par third round 71 for a six under par tally.
"I am a little disappointed as I started very, very good, and I was feeling very well but went through a difficult patch at eight, nine and 10 but did finish in good fashion," he said.
"But I am now going to have no choice tomorrow. I still showed passion. I still showed that I play with my guts, and you know, I'm just fighting like a dog.
"I have no idea what I need to do tomorrow. My strategy is to shoot the best round of my career, plain and simple."
And with Olazabal set to announce his two 'wildcard' picks at 1100 GMT on Monday, Colsaerts said he will be fishing.
"I have some fly fishing set for Monday morning and that will give me something else to think about," he said.

Welcome to Engadget's back to school guide! The end of summer vacation isn't nearly as much fun as the weeks that come before, but a chance to update your tech tools likely helps to ease the pain. Today, we have speaker docks in our sights -- and you can head to the back to school hub to see the rest of the product guides as they're added throughout the month. Be sure to keep checking back -- at the end of the month we'll be giving away a ton of the gear featured in our guides -- and hit up the hub page right here.
If there's any post-adolescent period that deserves its own soundtrack, it's your college years. Sure, our portable audio picks will let you jam on the go, but the best collegiate experiences are shared with friends -- and listening to music should be no exception. Even if you'd prefer to keep your playlist out of your friends' feed, be it in person or online, you'll still need to wake up each morning, and what better way to ease into the waking world than with your favorite tracks? These speaker docks offer more functionality than your average smartphone clock, and they're certainly better equipped to play DJ when it comes time to close the books. Join us past the break for our 2012 picks.
?This past April, there was a primary election in Illinois that featured a former MoveOn staffer, Ilya Sheyman, running against a conservative Democrat. MoveOn had 15,000 members in the district out of a total of 30,000 Democratic primary voters. And Ilya lost, badly. As the discussion emerged following this loss, I wrote a piece, ?Membership & Support in the Online Left.? My post focused around a comment from Matt Stoller, who wrote, ?If you can?t turn out your members to vote, then they aren?t really your members.?
In online organizing, most organizations tend to represent the possession of an email address as the threshold to call someone a member. The email may have been acquired through a long forgotten petition, a long past event RSVP, or even a modest donation to a timely campaign. But once we have that email address, we have ourselves a member.?
It becomes fundamentally challenging to the concept of building power through the size of our memberships if it turns out the people we think of as members do not think of themselves as belonging to our organizations. I wrote in April:
[P]art of the urgency for figuring out how advocacy groups can build meaningful relationships with activists unto them considering themselves members is that there are always fights being waged. If a major corporation does something destructive or if an elected official introduces legislation that would cause major harm, are groups going to be able to stop them with their email lists? Or are large and always growing lists the Maginot Line of modern progressive advocacy, built to look impressive, but not effective at achieving their purpose?
This is not a small question, but one which has the potential to speak to movement-wide efficacy (or, as the case may be, inefficacy)?
There are many forms of power, but one most common to progressive organizations is power that?s derived from large numbers of people working together. An organization with a small budget may not be able to achieve their goals through the power of money, but if they have hundreds of thousands of people standing behind them, they can affect change. Groups with larger memberships tend to be considered as more powerful than groups with small memberships- they are viewed as speaking for large constituencies of people. Their leaders have the membership as a source of validation in public discourse. Indeed, the difference between an organization or a leader having a voice in public debate and being marginalized from participation in serious public policy discussions is often tied to the perceived power of an organization?s membership. Grassroots power is so attractive that corporate front groups set up AstroTurf campaigns, meant to look like the product of member-driven activism, but without any base beyond the industry which funds it.?
It?s not shocking, then, that we seek to speak for as large a membership as possible.?
An organization having an individual?s email address is not a benchmark seen with ?how many offline organizations think about their membership. One common way community-based groups I work with seek to build leaders out of a larger community of constituents think about their membership is through concentric circles of engagement. The outermost is Constituents - the group of total people who could care about their work. The next is the Base - people who are engaged with the organization in some way, but aren?t really activists. The third smallest circle is Members - people who regularly do work with the group and think about it as part of their identity. The final, smallest circle is Leaders - people who have demonstrated a commitment to and responsibility for the stewardship of the organization.?
Implicit in this model of thinking is the recognition that only a small part of the universe an organization interacts with is a member they can count on. Membership has to be developed; the possession of contact information is not the same as organizational membership.
One powerful example of the promotion of an individual up through these circles comes from Occupy Our Homes Atlanta. Brigitte Walker came to Occupy Our Homes Atlanta after seeing a newspaper ad they?d put out seeking homeowners facing foreclosure. Brigitte, an Iraq War veteran, was on the verge of losing her home. She started working with Occupy Our Homes Atlanta as the center of a community organizing campaign against Chase Bank. After she won a permanent modification, Brigitte stayed involved with OOH ATL. She began canvassing her neighborhood for other people in foreclosure, hosting meetings of homeowners, and eventually taking a leading role as a member-activist with OOH ATL.?
Online organizers are certainly familiar with the idea that there are ever-shrinking circles of people ?who will do what an organization asks them to do. Out of the universe of email addresses, a subset opens an email. A smaller subset will click on any particular link, but generally speaking more people will sign a petition than will refer a friend than will write a letter than will make a donation than will attend an event than will hold an event than will do a form of civil disobedience.?
Isn?t it odd that we would take the most insignificant and high-volume form of relationship ? the possession of someone?s contact information ? as sufficient for membership? And aren?t we missing the obvious when we conflate email list size for membership size? Worst of all, as we see with the MoveOn primary example, when individuals are talked to and talked about by an organization with the presupposition that they are in fact members, does that organization risk failing to achieve important goals based on these assumptions?
As we explore this problem of how to think about our membership, more questions arise. If possessing an email address isn?t sufficient for membership, what relationships between organizations and individuals is sufficient to deploy the power we need for organizing? How can organizations build up these relationships to increase the size of their committed membership over time? More importantly, how do organizations deliver value to people such that the people will feel compelled to lend these organizations the power of their membership??
At a time when the right wing is advancing destructive policies of austerity, climate denial, union busting and bigotry, it?s more important than ever that progressives find ways to effectively build power and win.?
All of these questions are areas I?m hoping to explore at Web of Change 2012. Marianne Manilov and I are hosting a ?session, ?Membership & Building Power,? that will seek to address them, as well as look at organizing models which have proven successful for building relationships and power through grassroots membership. As much as these are questions connected to our systems of organizing, they are also problems that challenge how we think about the people whose power we seek to deploy to change the world. In other words, the perfect sort of fodder for Web of Change?s community of practitioners.
My colleague at USA Today?s Cruise Log posed an interesting question today: Are Crystal and Seabourn the world?s best cruise lines?
His post, inspired by the results of a Travel & Leisure reader survey, is getting good engagement with lots of comments and varying opinions. I encourage you to join the discussion.
My opinion? Well, thanks for asking.
Are Crystal and Seabourn the world?s best? Not for everyone. And just because a cruise line scores higher by a marginal differential doesn?t make it the best for you. Crystal ranked number one among large-ship lines with a score of 92.45; Regent Seven Seas Cruises scored 90.14 in that category. Seabourn topped small-ship cruise lines with a score of 93.3; Silversea Cruises, 90.03; and SeaDream Yacht Club, 88.33.
Will you have a better experience on Crystal with its 2.31 higher score than on Regent? That depends. If you enjoy imbibing without signing a check, you?ll be happier on Regent. If you need Nobu nightly, you?ll discover your bliss on Crystal.
If we limit the discussion strictly to luxury ships (or say those that are nearly all-inclusive and carrying fewer than 1,000 passengers) it would be extremely difficult to name a world?s best between the contenders: Silversea Cruises, Seabourn, Crystal Cruises, Regent Seven Seas Cruises, SeaDream Yacht Club and hey, even Hapag-Lloyd?s Europa.
All of these luxury lines offer gourmet dining, free booze (Crystal starts freely pouring in 2012), six-star service, high staff-to-guest ratios, roomy staterooms and suites, bathrooms you can get lost in, expansive balconies (SeaDream is the exception in these last two categories. Bathrooms are the ?soap up and spin? variety, and while there are no balconies, there is a lot of open deck space and beautiful Balinese beds. With only about 100 passengers, the open deck space on SeaDream feels like your balcony.)
When you get to this level of luxury, it?s hard to say who ranks best, because essentially it comes down to who?s the best for you?
Desire dining (or sleeping) outdoors with St. Tropez as the backdrop? SeaDream is the best for you. Enjoy expeditions? Silversea?s Silver Explorer is the best luxury line for you. Want lots of activities and Nobu?s brand of sushi at sea? Go Crystal. Prefer as all-inclusive as possible? Regent is calling your name. Want to cruise on the industry?s newest fleet of luxury small ships? Seabourn is the way to go.

The key aspect of time management is to understand the importance of using time effectively as ?Time is money? as well as ?Time is a source of competitive advantage.?
To understand the nature and characteristics of time so that they can utilize that knowledge to effectively manage their time.
To understand why time is wasted in an organization and how to eliminate the causes of time wastage.
To establish their own time management system or to improve upon their existing time management system after taking into consideration the concepts and ideas discussed in the program.
The art of time is about putting every hour, minute and second into productive work. So lets do it?
Lets give our bodies a 5 hour sleep period as it necessary for health. If you are not young then you can sleep for 6-7 hours max. The point here is that sleep is a good thing, it refreshes your body and with no activity your brain power can rest. It is important to have a great sleep.
So we are left with only 18 hours now on average basis, Lets make these hours really work for you. Before you jump into filling up you daily schedule with lots of tasks lets take a step backwards. Look back to the past week or so, what are the most important things you need to for the future. If you have immediate tasks and responsibilities coming up then they take the higher priority so make a list of them. Now, try to come up with a long list of everything you think you should be doing for today. A long list is a very detailed list in case you didn?t know. Divide each task into smaller elements, for example, if you are going to write an article then dividing it into little tasks mean counting research, inspiration, draft write up, link baiting, to finalizing draft and publishing it. Knowing the little details allow you to dedicate a certain amount of time to each task this way if you thought writing a article would only take an hour would not end costing you 2 hours on researching alone. Keep
doing this for all the tasks you have to do for the day.
Listing all the stuff in your time sheet is not enough, you have to actually stick to it and perform each of them to the second, so if you assigned yourself with 20 minutes of research as soon as your 20 minutes are up stop the research and move on to the next task. Don?t worry if your research sucks, you don?t expect to become extremely efficient in just one day did you?
Only the Practice will make you perfect! the first a few days are going to be rough but after that your brain and positive energy adjust themselves to your new routine. The trick is not to go back to the old you, it?s like quitting smoking for 2 days but picking it up again, you won?t problem free because of those 2 days.
When your level of efficiency picks up you?ll realize that before you were spending 2 hours on research like tasks that were getting you no where to now that you can do resulting research in just 15 minutes. Now just imagine with your new level of efficiency if you had 2 hours to do tasks you normally do in 15 minutes, imagine the glorious results. This is actually how quality and innovation happens. You can apply this to almost any task you can imagine. I personally even analyze my driving, shopping, online surfing, books and magazine readings and everything else you can imagine.
I only started to really care about my time since mid last year and it has done wonders for me in terms of my performance at work, my side projects and running multiple sites and managing couple of web projects. Without managing my time i would have never been able to take care of 2 projects let alone the things i do now!
Time Management is one of those important elements that contribute to any type of success. Manage your time effectively and efficiently and you?ll be able to manage every thing in your life from your house to million $$$ empire.
One of my all-time favorite fruits is the coconut. The Pacific Islanders believe that it is the cure for all illness, which is why the palm tree (from which coconuts are grown) is known as ?The Tree of Life.??Coconut oil is thought to possess healing properties above and beyond that of any other dietary oils.
Eating coconuts are excellent for one?s?immunity. They are antiviral, antifungal, antibacterial, and anti-parasitic, meaning they kill harmful bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites. Because of that, if you consume coconut in any of its various forms (whether it be raw coconut, coconut oil, coconut milk, coconut butter, etc.), it can help treat some of mankind?s worst and most resilient of?illnesses?such as influenza, giardia, lice, throat infections, urinary tract infections, tapeworms, herpes, gonorrhea, bronchitis, and numerous other ailments caused by microbials.
Whether you?re eating the meat, drinking the juice, or consuming it as oil, coconuts are a?delicious and nutritious?source of fiber,?vitamins, minerals, and amino acids. It has tons of calcium, potassium, and magnesium, as well as plenty of electrolytes. In fact, coconut water is known to have the same electrolyte levels as human plasma, and has even been used for plasma transfusions!
The oil is excellent for keeping one young and beautiful. Its?antioxidant properties?slow down the aging process by protecting the body from harmful free radicals. I like to put a little bit of?coconut oil on my skin every day?to keep it nice and smooth, as well as free from dryness. I apply it onto my skin before showering. The hot water opens my pores, allowing the oil to absorb through my skin more efficiently. Just make sure to wipe the bottom of the tub when you?re done, since the coconut oil can be slippery. Coconut oil is also known to?treat skin disorders?such as eczema, psoriasis, and dermatitis.
It also helps?hair?to become more healthy and lustrous. My hair has always been a bit on the dry, thin side, so I like to put coconut oil in it. On occasion, I?ll leave the oil in my hair overnight (covering my pillow with a towel so as to not get it oily) and wash it out in the morning. I?m always satisfied to find my hair is moist, radiant, and shiny. It?s a great alternative if you don?t want to use a leave-in conditioner.
Eating coconuts also supports the development of strong,?healthy bones and teeth. It does this by improving the body?s ability to absorb calcium and magnesium. It also prevents?osteoporosis, a condition in which the bones become thin and fragile?and lose their density. This makes coconuts a good, healthy alternative for those who are lactose intolerant, but still want to have strong bones and teeth. Those who prefer a vegan diet can benefit from it as a good source of protein and fatty acids.
When coconut oil was first brought to the U.S., there was a lot of negative hype about it because it contains high levels of saturated fat. People were concerned that it increased cholesterol and contributed to heart disease?but this is a myth. It actually lowers cholesterol and reduces the chances of heart disease. This is because its fat content is simply changed into energy, lessening the likelihood of fat buildup in the arteries and heart.
